Reprinted from the Cumberland Times, Saturday, February 7, 1874 (Punctuation, grammar and spelling as it appeared)NOTE: This happened eighteen months before the FFD was organized and six months prior to the fire which burned down half of the opposite side of Main Street and beyond. This is the same block that again burned to the ground in 1917. On both occasions, the fire jumped the alley between Durst (Today’s Book store) and Prichard’s and burned building's on both side.
