ON THIS DAY IN FFD HISTORY

A reprint from the Cumberland News – Thursday, January 26, 1939

As Flames Swept Mt. Savage Shops – A snow-laden gale whipped flames through the upper and lower shops of the C&P railroad early yesterday, causing $100,000 damage.

Shown are the wreckage of the upper shop and the roaring inferno inside the stone walls of the lower shop, which was built in 1868.

Also shown are the remains of Engine No. 24, just reconditioned. Operations will continue in buildings which were spared.
