A Frostburg State University student remained hospitalized in serious condition today with burns he suffered during an apartment fire early Friday. Two other people escaped without injury.

David Williams Pear Jr., 21, of Silver Spring, was found in the hallway of the burning apartment building at 30 Stoyer Street at about 3:30am by Frostburg firefighters. He had apparently collapsed while trying to escape, said Deputy Chief State Fire Marshall Bob Thomas. Armstrong Insurance Agency Donation

January 15, 2017 Events  No comments

The Armstrong Insurance Agency was recently awarded the 2016 Erie Insurance “Giving Network Agency” of the Year Award by the Silver Spring Branch for their outstanding community involvement.

This award enabled the agency to choose a deserving non-profit organization, to whom the Erie Insurance Group will make a $2500.00 donation. Instead of selecting one group, the Armstrong Insurance Agency matched the $2500.00 donation and selected two non-profits that proudly serve the greater Frostburg community. The Frostburg Fire Department (FFD) and the Frostburg Area Ambulance Service (FAAS) were both selected.
A dinner was held recently to honor these two organizations and to present the donations. The event was held at the newly-renovated 1885 Central Hose Reel House. An appropriate location

ON THIS DAY IN FROSTBURG/FFD HISTORY

A reprint from the Mining Journal - Saturday, January 7, 1893

FIRE
A portion of Mrs. Amanda Folk’s house, Maple street, was burned Wednesday night about 11½ o’clock owing to the distance from the fire department’s headquarters some delay in sounding the alarm was occasioned. Meanwhile the fire gained headway. It was a bad, cold night, but the laddies got there in force with all their apparatus.

The first blast from the nozzle showed that the new water system was master of the situation and soon the fire was completely extinguished. The fire almost instantly collapsed when the strong head of the new water system fell upon it. The hydrant is one of the new ones too, and located just right. The firemen say that “the pressure knocks an

Frostburg K of C gutted

ONE INJURED, SMOKE FELLS TWO OTHERS

Fire gutted the Frostburg Knights of Columbus building, 117 East Main St., yesterday about 9:30PM.

Five fire companies and the LaVale Volunteer Rescue Squad truck responded to the alarm turned in by Enoch Price, a fireman, who was passing by the building in his car and noticed smoke. He summoned the Frostburg volunteer fire company.

Firemen were at a dinner in the police station and arrived at the scene within minutes but it was reported the fire already had blazed into the ceiling of the two-story, brick building, which was gutted.

Three firms on the ground floor-Quinn’s Floor Service, Frostburg Antiques, and Fair’s storeroom,
