Fireman, 2 Children Die

Barton Man Collapses on Rescue

Blaze Destroys Mobile Home in Frostburg.
A flaming house trailer in Frostburg claimed the lives of three persons today, including two young children who died shortly before noon in Minors Hospital, and a fireman who collapsed and died after helping one of the children from the blazing mobile home.

Victims of the tragic accident were Jeffrey Bullers, 2, and Douglas Bullers, his 14-month-old brother, who were rushed to the Minors after being carried from the house trailer. They were the children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowlers.

Declared dead on arrival at minors was James Elsworth Lamberson, 31, Fire Chief of the Barton Hose

Length of Service Anniversary

Please help us congratulate Mike Moretti on his first FFD "Length of Service" anniversary. Mike joined this great organization on March 22, 2016 and he has shown that he has what it takes to continue the rich traditions of the FFD.

In his first year, Mike successfully passed the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute (MFRI) Firefighter I course and is currently enrolled in the MFRI Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class.

2017 Annual Anniversary Banquet

This past Saturday, the FFD celebrated 139 years of service to the city of Frostburg and surrounding communities at our annual banquet.

The event was held at the Frostburg Community Center and a great dinner was provided by George Pappas and staff from Princess Restaurant catering. More than 115 guests were on hand including distinguished City, County, and State officials, neighboring fire department representatives, and FFD members and guests.

Flames, Which Were Discovered By Night Patrolman Thomas Griffith Shortly After 5 O’clock, Spread With Such Rapidity That For a Time Entire Business Block Was Threatened.

DEFECTIVE WIRING IS BLAMED

One of the most disastrous fires that has visited Frostburg in recent years, totally destroyed the large three-story department store of Hitchins Brothers on East Main St. at 6 o'clock this morning with a total estimated loss at $350,000 in building and contents The fire was discovered at 5:10 o'clock by Officer Thomas Griffith who sent in an alarm.

Fire Guts Old Inn - The Clarysville structure dates back to 1807
CLARYSVILLE - An apparent accidental fire destroyed the 192-year-old Clarysville Inn early Wednesday and left a family of five who operated businesses there for the past four years homeless along with two other tenants.

``I've never been in this position before," said Tom Pecora, who operated the businesses at the Clarysville Inn since March 1995, when he and his family left behind a successful catering business in Baltimore for a new life in Allegany County.
