Runaway Truck Causes Death and Destruction

Yesterday’s tragedy which killed three and injured 18 persons on Frostburg’s narrow Main Street would have been of even more monumental proportions, says Lt. Robert R. Yinger of the Maryland State Police, had the runaway truck hit 20 yards either way or had the accident occurred 20 minutes earlier.

The accident occurred in the 100 block of East Main Street at 4:10 p.m. with the truck speed climbing as high as 80 mph, sideswiping 16 cars and one truck. The cab section of the truck crashed into Stoops’ Restaurant, the only building on the street says Lt. Yingler, which is a single building and not connected. It immediately burst

SUBMITS ANNUAL REPORT OF FIRE DEPT.

Frostburg Company Answered 56 Alarms – John Keller Elected President

At the recent meeting of the Frostburg Fire Department, the annual report was submitted to the Mayor and Council by Chief Arch Baker. The report follows:
Gentlemen: As chief of the Frostburg Fire Department No. 1, I wish to submit to your honorable body the following report of the activities during 1930.

The department responded to a 56 alarms, 31 of which were within the city limits, with a total loss in fire damages within the corporate limits of $4,405. In most cases these alarms were flue fires.
