It is with regret and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce A. Race, 62, who passed away Tuesday, April 22, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Joyce was married to FFD firefighter (Past Fire Chief) Bob “Newt” Race.

Born June 13, 1951 in Avilton, she is the daughter of the late Forrest W. and Genevive (Dickel) Railey. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Donna Rosenberger.

Joyce had held employment with Allegany County Housing Authority and Hilltop Fruit Market. She was very active with volunteer work involving the Greater Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC), where she was currently the Presidents Assistant till her term end in 2016, and had also worked with the Boy Scouts of America.

Surviving is her husband of 40 years, Robert W. Race; daughter, Lorrie Race; son, John W. Race; brothers, Richard Railey and Joe Railey; sisters, Janice Cage, Theresa Eichorn and Susan Burke; numerous nieces and nephews and extended adopted family and friends.
