FIRE DESTROYS LYRIC THEATRE BUILDING AT FROSTBURG

Blaze Discovered at 5:45 o’clock - Raged for Five Hours - Business Section is Threatened - Lonaconing, Midland and Cumberland Firemen are Called and Help to Extinguish Fire - Woolworth and Stanton & Son Heavy Losers.

Frostburg, May 17 - The Lyric Theatre building on Main Street, valued at $50,000, was practically destroyed by fire, which was discovered at 5:45 O’clock this morning, and which raged for several hours and threatened at one time the entire business section of Frostburg. The fire was discovered by Hugh Spier, who turned in the alarm.

Fire Tornado Rips Through San Diego
Thousands of Acres Have Burned in Nine San Diego County, California Wildfires

Dozens of homes and thousands of acres have burned as not one, but nine wildfires ripped through the San Diego County, California landscape.

Universities, attractions like Legoland and tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate. Flames moved closer to a nuclear power plant, a military base, as well as commercial and residential areas.

The area has been exceptionally dry after unusually low rainfall and super high temperatures, creating the perfect environment for wildfires to spread.

The blaze started as one wildfire quickly turned into nine, burning over 9,000 acres so far. Although temperatures cooled a bit last night and the winds calmed down,

Gree Re-announces Dehumidifier Recall Due to Serious Fire and Burn Hazards; More Fires and Property Damage Reported

Description
This recall involves 20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 50, 65 and 70-pint dehumidifiers with brand names Danby, De’Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire,GE,Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima.  Recalled model numbers and date codes are listed below. The brand name and the pint capacity are printed on the front of the dehumidifier. The model number and date code are printed on a sticker on the back, front or side of the unit. The dehumidifiers are white, beige, gray or black plastic and measure between 19 and 24 inches tall, 13 and 15 inches wide, and 9 and 11 inches deep.

Throwback Thursday – OCT 1966

This is Marilyn Stevenson teaching kindergarten at the Welsh Baptist Church on Beall Street (picture shows Charles Street entrance) while on a leave of absence having her son Bob. Said Marilyn, “Every year during my 32 years teaching we visited the Frostburg Fire Department; one of their favorite field trips. Thank you to all our very brave & dedicated firemen! We are so proud of you!”

Length of Service Anniversaries

Please help us congratulate the following FFD members on their "Length of Service" anniversaries. All joined this great organization on today’s date and throughout the years, provided dedicated service and leadership.

Donald “Pete” Davis, May 8, 1962; 52 years of service.Pete served as the Department President for 7 consecutive years (1969 – ’75), held numerous fire line positions, including Assistant Fire Chief and was the Fire Prevention/Public Safety Chairman for many years. Pete was also the recipient of the 1971 Firefighter of the Year Award. Additionally, Pete was the chef-extraordinaire for the annual New Year’s Day feed for many, many years.

Robert “Bobby” Dugan, May 8, 1979; 35 years of service.

Bobby served as the Department President in 1983 and as Fire Chief in 1988
