Fire Department Educates Local Students
According to the National Fire Protection Administration (NFPA), Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire; the tragic 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres. The fire began on October 8, but continued into and did most of its damage on October 9, 1871.
On the 40th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, the Fire Marshals Association of North America (today known as the International Fire Marshals Association), decided that the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire should henceforth be observed not with festivities, but in a way that would keep the public

Frostburg – Extinguish Fire At Cotton Club
The Frostburg Fire Department was called to the Cotton Club, a tavern on Park Avenue, at 4 o’clock this morning to extinguish a fire.Mrs. Earle Jackson, proprietor of the club, resides in the same building and was awakened by the smoke.
Firemen used a booster line to extinguish the blaze, which was confined to the club room. It is believed this blaze was caused by a smoldering cigarette.
Furnishings in the room were badly damaged according to Fire Chief G. Woodrow Layman but he gave no estimate of the loss.

Length of Service Anniversary

Please help us congratulate Gary Tummino on his "Length of Service" anniversary. Gary joined this great organization on October 27, 1970 and throughout the years, provided dedicated service and leadership in serving almost every administrative and fire line officer position, including Fire Chief for more than 13 years and his current role as the Department Treasurer and Acting President.
Over the years, he has performed tens of thousands of man hours of training and service in an effort to continue the rich traditions of the FFD. Chief Tummino can be found at the firehouse everyday!
On behalf of the entire Department and the citizens of Frostburg and surrounding areas, thank you and happy 46th!!
