On the date of this incident the supervisors and leads failed to direct over 40% of the employees out of the building. Not only did they fail to do so, they refused to allow any one inferior to a supervisor to leave the building. When the fire alarm went off all of the supervisors/managers left the top floor (where traditional relay services are held with approximately 20 employees), prior to leaving. We, the operators, were told to remain in the building as they, the supervisors/managers, scurried out of the building, leaving us, the operators, to remain in the building uniformed of what was going on.
I feel as though this goes against some form of policy, as a work place, they should be following, but are too afraid to not have employees Availabe to answer their phone calls. This incident was not an actual fire, but it was real, and it was not a drill. I, and many other employees, are concerned for when there is a real fire, and they attempt to command us to remain seated.
Thank you,
Concerned employee of Hamilton Relay INC
