Length of Service Anniversary

Please help us congratulate M. Douglas Hanson on his "Length of Service" anniversary. Doug joined this great organization on June 26, 1979 and throughout the years, has provided dedicated service and leadership as both an administrative and fire line officer.

When we post these anniversary announcements, we always mention “the member has performed hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands ofman hours of training and service in an effort to continue the rich traditions of the FFD.” In this case, we can’t begin to imagine the hours that Doug has served this department. He had tens of thousands of hours in “fire prevention” alone in the ‘80’s & ‘90’s!

Doug moved back to Frostburg in 2014 after retiring as a Battalion Chief from the Montgomery County Fire-Rescue Department,

OLDEST FIREMAN IS MISSED HERE

Thomas S. Preston, 85, Of Frostburg, Kept At Home By Illness.
There is one member of the Frostburg Fire Department missing this year’s annual Maryland State Firemen’s Association, which is winding up its three-day meeting here. He is Thomas S. Preston, the oldest volunteer fireman in Western Maryland and the only remaining charter member of the Frostburg company.

Mr. Preston’s absence is due to illness, much to the regret of his fellow firemen and those who have seen his familiar figure at previous conventions.

Mr. Preston, who is 85, has been a member of the Frostburg company for 58 years. He was a member before the company was chartered on March 18,
