13325615_1403473916345123_7237017456766779304_nRichard Lewis “Dick” Connor, 78, of Frostburg, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born on December 6, 1937, in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late Millard and Margaret (Passarell) Connor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Connor.

Dick was previously employed by Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland until they ceased local operations. He then was a driver for Willets Travel, Bollman Travel, Allegany College Auto Tech Department and the Allegany County Public Schools as a contractor.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He served in the Maryland National Guard and was a member of Frostburg Elks Lodge 470.

Dick joined the Frostburg Fire Department on February 8, 1966, serving with pride for 50 years. Over the years, Dick performed thousands of man hours of training, driving and dedicated service in an effort to continue the rich traditions of the FFD. His lifelong passion was camping with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Catherine Jolieta (Atkinson) Connor; sons, Dennis Connor, Winchester, and Jeff Connor, Cresaptown; daughter, Cathy Crowe and husband Bill, Knapp’s Meadow; grandchildren, Dennis Connor, Jr., Cassie Shugars and Christopher Connor; great-grandchildren, Katie and Taylor Shockey, Chloe Shugars and Skyler Connor; sister, Carol Race and husband James, Frostburg; sister in law, Linda Connor, Frostburg; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, Md, on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 6-8 pm. The Frostburg Elks will hold a memorial service at 7 pm.

On Monday, friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Frostburg Fire Department will hold a memorial service at 7:30 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 11 am with Fr. Ed Hendricks serving as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Frostburg, Memorial Park. Frostburg Volunteer Firefighters will serve as pallbearers. All area fire departments are welcomed to participate in the procession to the cemetery following the mass on Tuesday morning.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to Steven Boggs, of Frostburg, who stopped and performed CPR, the Frostburg Area Ambulance, the Frostburg Fire Department and the Western Maryland Health System.
