AREA MOBILE HOME GUTTED BY FLAMES

Fire destroyed the mobile home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Carey of Finzel yesterday. Mrs. Carey, who is in her 50’s was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment following the blaze.

The fire broke out at approximately 2:15 p.m. Units from Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Company and Frostburg Fire Department were at the scene nearly three hours before the blaze was extinguished. Fred Arnold, Chief of Eastern Garrett, said when firemen arrived at the scene the trailer was engulfed in flames. Frostburg was then summoned for mutual aid.

“Crusin’ Main Street”

Members of the FFD will be on hand for tomorrow night’s “Cruisin' Main Street 2016” event, so please stop by, say hello, play some corn hole and take advantage of the fire prevention items that will be available for distribution.

Remember to use special caution with the heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and enjoy the event! The Frostburg City Police Department will have additional officers on patrol to help ensure a safe, orderly, and fun time is had by all.

Please be aware of the traffic pattern and parking changes on Main Street for Thursday afternoon and evening during the event. No parking will be permitted from 1:00 -10:00 pm in the westbound lane of Main Street from Water Street to Bowery Street.

At 4:00 pm, all Main Street traffic between Water & Bowery Streets

Drill at Frostburg State University

30 firefighters from Frostburg, Shaft and Mt. Savage participated in a training exercise last night at Edgewood Commons apartments located on University Drive at the south end of the FSU campus. This is a large student rental complex with over 400 residence and 108 apartments.

The group conducted a walk-through of both the outside areas and interior of the buildings in an effort to identify potential challenges for arriving crews that included tactics and best practices. Thanks to D/C Joe Hoffman and A/C Doug Hanson for spearheading the effort.

FSC FIRE VICTIM IN BURN UNIT

A Frostburg State College graduate student sustained second and third degree burns in a fire which swept through a frame, single-family dwelling at 270 East Main Street, Frostburg early today.
Patrick McKenna, whose home address was listed as 2009 Grace Church Street, Silver Spring, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment and then transported by Frostburg area Ambulance to Hagerstown where it was reported a State Police helicopter was to fly the victim to the Burn Center at the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.

Treated and released from the local hospital was David Lowe, 21 of Pittsburgh.

Please help us congratulate Sam McCulloh on his "Length of Service" anniversary.

Sam joined this great organization as a 3rd generation member on this date in 1961 and throughout the years, provided dedicated service and leadership as both a Line and Administrative officer and roles in fire prevention and numerous years as the crab feast chairman. You'll still see Sam marching in every parade proudly leading the procession carrying the Department banner!

Over the years, Sam has performed tens of thousands of man hours of training and service in an effort to continue the rich traditions of the FFD.
