Please help us congratulate FFD member Bruce Smith on his "Length of Service" anniversary. Bruce joined this great organization on May 13, 1975 and throughout the years, provided dedicated service and leadership as an administrative officer.Bruce is celebrating 41 years of service. He was elected Head Trustee and served on numerous committees during his tenure. Bruce received the “Firemen of the Year” award in 1988.
Over the years, Bruce has performed tens of thousands of man hours of training and service in an effort to continue the rich traditions of the FFD.

Bobby joined this great organization on May 8, 1979 and throughout the years, provided dedicated service and leadership as both administrative & line officers.Bobby is celebrating 37 years of service. He rose through the ranks to hold every fire line position including Fire Chief in 1988 & ’89. Bobby was a certified MD Fire Rescue Institute (MFRI) instructor, the Department Training Officer and very active with the FFD Fire Prevention program. Bobby received the “Firemen of the Year” award in 1985.
Over the years, Bobby has performed tens of thousands of man hours of training and service in an effort to continue the rich traditions of the FFD.

He served with distinction as the Fire Prevention Chairmen in 1968-‘69 and was named “Firemen of the Year” in 1971.

Fire Originated On First Floor; Appears Accidental In Nature
Two Frostburg State College students died in a fire which broke out in the off-campus residence about 3 a.m. Friday, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
George Eusebius Hylind, 21, of 6412 Hollins Drive, Bethesda and Michael Millard Crouch, 19, of 9919 Old Spring Road, Kensington, were pronounced dead at the scene by Allegany County Coroner Dr. Paul Snow. The State medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore scheduled autopsies for later in the day. The victims were taken to Memorial Hospital, Cumberland by Frostburg Ambulance before being transported to Baltimore.

American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign

FROSTBURG — Red Cross volunteers and Frostburg Fire Department members scoured the city Saturday, searching for residents in need of smoke alarms.
For six hours, the team of community-minded volunteers knocked on doors of Frostburg residents in an effort to educate about fire safety and fire evacuation plans. The city and nearby areas were visited by teams that arrived by various fire department apparatus.
If no life-saving smoke alarms were present in the home or if the homeowner wanted to replace one, new smoke detectors were provided, courtesy of the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. The initiative was designed to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries across the country by as much as 25 percent over the next five years.
