New Fire Chief

On July 25, 2024, Frostburg Fire Department (FFD) Life Member, William R. (Buzz) Davis assumed command of the department when President Todd W. Logsdon appointed him to the position of Fire Chief.

Chief Davis, following in his Father’s footsteps, joined the FFD as a second-generation member on June 25, 1990.  Throughout the years, he has held numerous ranks, including Captain, Assistant Fire Chief, Secretary, and Trustee.  Along with his nearly 35 years of FFD service, Buzz was employed by the Cumberland Fire Department (CDF) and retired in 2021.  He served 18 of his 26 years as a Captain.  He was a Maryland Fire Rescue Institute (MFRI) Fire Instructor from 1997-2021 and is currently a Safety Officer with the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services (DES) Special Operations Division.  He was also the CFD Team Leader for the Helicopter Emergency Arial Team (HEAT) in conjunction with MD State Police Aviation (Trooper 5).

In 1991, Buzz, along with FFD Lieutenant Kip DeVault, were recognized for entering a well-involved structure with no hoseline, performed a search and rescued a Frostburg State University student. That student, who was severely injured made a full recovery.  For their actions Davis and DeVault received the Bravery and Life Save Commendations and later that year were named Co-Firefighters of the Year.

Chief Davis is an avid hunter and golfer and resides in Shaft with his wife Lisa and their faithful dogs Max and Cooper, who all help work the fourth-generation family farm.

Please help us welcome the FFD’s 46th Fire Chief.
