Investigators: Resident set apartment fire

BEL AIR — A Bel Air woman has been charged with sparking a Saturday night fire that displaced three people and caused about $75,000 damage to Bel Air Apartments.

Jennifer J. Shoap, 45, was charged with first- and second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, malicious destruction of property over $1,000 and two counts of reckless endangerment, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. She was being held without bond Sunday night at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Fire investigators said Shoap admitted to setting fire to her third floor apartment, located at 15821 McMullen Highway. Volunteer firefighters from Allegany County, MD and Mineral County, WV., quickly extinguished the blaze.
