On this day in 1874, the wheels were put in motion to form an organized fire brigade in Frostburg due to the town's disaster one week earlier.

9/11 Memorial Service at Frostburg State University

Fourteen members of the FFD participated in this morning's event marking the 15th anniversary of 9/11.
The event was orchestrated by the Frostburg State University (FSU) Veterans Services and was held in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall, Lane University Center.

Length of Service Anniversary

Please help us congratulate Harry “Wink” Wolford on his "Length of Service" anniversary.
Wink joined this great organization on this date in 1975 and throughout the years, provided dedicated service and leadership as both a Line and Administrative officer including his current role as a Trustee. Wink is a past President of the department and held that office 15 years between 1984 & 2008.
Over the years, Wink has performed thousands of man hours of training and service in an effort to continue the rich traditions of the FFD.

FSU Graduate

While Bryan wasn't a member of the FFD, we are certainly proud of him as a FSU grad, of the extremely dangerous work he is doing and wanted to share the below post we saw on the Frostburg State University Facebook page.
Another example of some great things our FSU Students are accomplishing: Bryan Whitmore, a graduate student in the Applied Ecology and Conservation Biology Program, was part of the “Maryland 2” (MDS2) fire crew sent to the Buckskin fire near Sandpoint, Idaho.
MDS2 was also sent to contain and mop up the Uleda and Derr fires during its 14-day assignment and was assigned as the initial attack crew that had to respond to new fire starts on the 2.5 million acre Coeur D’Alene National Forest.
He was one of the 40 members selected out of the 120 registered wildland

FFD Training

The FFD conducted a training drill last night, which focused on getting large flow devices and hand lines in service within 3 minutes per NFPA 1410.
Units accomplished the objective and then expanded the water supply with additional deck guns and hand lines.
FFD members were joined by F/F's from Shaft VFD (Station 17) to bring the total of participating firefighters to more than 30. A post drill "Hot Wash" was conducted to reveal strengths and weaknesses.
